Favorite things turned Clean

Finding a way to eat Clean and not have to suffer has been a lot easier than I thought it would be. After being at this for a week and a half Ive had some unclean meals/snacks but overall stuck to
it pretty good.

I have found that my all time favorite snack is an Apple cut up and dipped into a Tablespoon of Almond/Peanut Butter. I got this awesome brand that I have been devouring. Its yummy and makes for a great snack.
We are also Big Breakfast people. So finding something that works and tas
tes good was a Big
Priority. Josiah LOVES pancakes and waffles, I mean what kid doesn't? So I got us a Whole Grain Pancake and Waffle mix at Henry's. And it tastes BETTER than regular Belgium waffles, NO JOKE. And topped with Pure Organic Maple Syrup its an awesome healthy breakfast. I do
prefer Strawberry's on mine. If only Cool Whip were clean... :(

I also got my 2 of 3 Cookbooks today in the mail. I also subscribed to Clean Eating Magazine. I LOVE my Pampered Chef cookbooks but a lot of the recipes aren't Clean and its nice to have Recipes that don't need revamping. I really like the Clean Eating Magazine and I'm not a big magazine fan.
I also am super impressed with the way Josiah is eating the food. Hes been a great eater and a picky eater but hasn't turned his nose up at the things I thought he would. He LOVES brown rice which can be an odd texture and he doesn't mind Whole Wheat noodles. Don't feel like you have to feed your child something different if you are eating Clean. When Rod and I talked about me doing this the one thing I wanted was for it to be a Family change. They are my life and support system and cooking for them is a passion of mine. This isn't just a diet to loose weight. Its us Changing the way that our kids and ourselves look at food. The recipes aren't hard or super time consuming, but it does take some planning and thought. Ive been making my meals up for 2 weeks but I think when I get home from Vacation I'll do one week at a time to make it a little easier on myself.

Ill probably post once while I'm home but then start up fresh once I'm back in Sunny California.

Clean Eating

Clean Eating. What is it you ask?

It is eating the way nature intended. You eat the foods our bodies evolved to function best on, and that makes you feel – and look – fantastic. When you Eat Clean you eat more often. You will eat lean protein, complex carbs, and healthy fats. These practices keep your blood-sugar levels stable and keep you satisfied. The best part is that if you need to lose weight it will happen almost without you having to try. And yes, you can have a treat now and again.

Best of all, Eating Clean keeps you feeling great and full of energy. In fact, you can forget all about the days when “dieting” meant feelings of hunger, lethargy or deprivation.

Eating Clean is not a fad; it’s a way of life. When you Eat Clean your body will react by losing weight if you need to lose, maintaining a healthy weight if that’s where you are, and even gaining weight if you are too skinny. But regardless of whether you want to lose, maintain or gain, you will feel better than you ever have before.

Never worry about counting calories again. You will never have to diet. Eating Clean will keep you lean and healthy for the rest of your long life. Eating Clean guarantees results!

We are Eating Clean as a family and in one week pants that didn't fit, fit me now. I have more energy and don't feel hungry at all.

I have cut out things I love like:

Honey Ham lunch meat which is replaced with All Natural Turkey, Chicken or Ham with no added sugars or lots of salt.

Homemade Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies replaced by Chocolate Spiked Oatmeal Cookies found here: http://www.cleaneatingmag.com/Recipes/Recipe/Chocolate-Spiked-Oatmeal-Cookies.aspx

Pasta Noodles replaced by Whole Grain or Quinoa Noodles

Sourdough Bread replaced by Whole Wheat Bread or Ezekiel bread

All of these things have been fairly easy to stick to. I also cant have sugar, pop, chips and other pre-packaged snacks.

I eat 6 or 7 times a day. I get to eat smaller portions but more all day long. I'm excited for this journey. I'm excited to loose the 70-100 pounds I need to loose. I'm excited to raise my boys eating healthy, home cooked meals. My mom has been a great role model when I was growing up. She eats great, she exercises tons. I desire to be the mom she was. She was never too big to do something with us and I WILL NOT be that mom. So heres to a change for me and for my family.

Ill be trying to post pictures of Clean recipes and there ingredients weekly and how things are going. This will be my accountability to make sure i'm doing what I need and keeping a journal.

Meal Plan for the week

I know, I'm not sticking to my once a week blogging. Ill try and be better. We leave Monday the 7th to go to Washington and I really don't want a lot of food to go bad so we are basically living out of the pantry and freezer this week. Its not the healthiest week but we always have veggies.

Monday: Pulled Pork, Green Beans and Potatoes Smashed
Tuesday: Taco Lasagna and Asparagus
Wednesday: Shake and Bake Chicken, Angle Hair Pasta and Sauce with Roasted Zucchini
Thursday: Crock Pot Philly Cheese steak and Green Beans
Friday: Potato Soup, Green Beans and Garlic Bread
Saturday: Out to Eat
Sunday: Tomato Soup and Paninis
Monday: Leftovers

Basically I have all of this either made or in my freezer. I might have to go get maybe milk and a few things. We eat a lot of green beans because Josiah loves them and I buy the big bag from Costco.

Ill post again for my shopping trip when we get back and my meal plan from the 15th-28th. Ive been keeping myself on a good budget of 125 a week maybe less, im trying to slowly work it down.

Anyways, this week is going to be busy so ill post when we get home from washington! :)

Its Tuesday, cant it be Thursday.

Rods gone for 3 nights. And I am not very good at being alone. I dont know how ill ever handle a 7 month deployment when it happens. I am a total whimp when it comes to being alone at night. I am scared of the dark (but only when im alone) and have to sleep with the light on. And when im alone I have to do the night routine, which takes alot of running around after Josiah and making sure Eli is content. Seems about 7 or 7:30 every night our children get crabby. We have made them this way because almost every night they are in bed by 8, well Josiah is and Eli is being rocked or in the swing. So when they get fussy that means its tubby time which is by far Josiahs favorite time of the day. Then they get lotioned up, into their night diapers and Jammies. And to bed to read a book. Josiah gets his bottle (yes I lay him in bed with it, trust me I swore Id never do this but its the only thing that works. I am dreading when hes 2 because we will need to start breaking the habbit) which he will ONLY drink cold right from the refrigerator. So needless to say this takes time and when im alone I do it one at a time. But last night I was waiting for sheets to get done in the dryer to make his bed. He peed through twice yesterday..And it was diaper laundry day so those took priority. So I got him in his jammies and stuck him in his bed to run down stairs and get the sheet. He and Eli were both screaming. I finally got it made and him in bed and read the book. Then gave Eli a bath and came down stairs and watched TV thinking he would fall asleep. Around 10:30 I decided to head upstairs and try..Finally at 1 AM he was out. I was tired and fell right asleep and then at 5 AM Josiah decided he was ready for the day. Needless to say I am SOOO blessed to have an AMAZING husband who is home (most) every night and helps with boys. He is my Best Friend and im so blessed to have him!

First Blog

I figured since my evenings are a little slower lately with Rod working nights now, I could start a journal of our life. Ill do a little recap of the last year. :) Feel free to read the parts that interest you.

1/5/09- Rod left for Boot camp. Quite possibly the longest 13 weeks of my life. I have a wonderfull family who filled my time with great dinners, many puzzles and lots of love. While Rod was at Boot camp we went to Cancun and had a wonderfull time!! Rod was a smidge dissapointed that we went without him but was deffinetly glad that I had a great time.

2/14/09- Had our ultrasound to find out if we were having a boy or girl...lol. Well apparently Josiah wanted to be shy because there were no little man parts in that u/s. Oh well, it was a fun shocker.

4/2/09- Family Day at MCRD!! First day I had seen Rod in 13 weeks. :) He couldnt stop smiling. It was a great day, but such a bummer when I had to say good bye.

4/3/09- Graduation!! It was long..but soooo worth it!! Afterwards I got to keep him, for 10 whole days!!!

5/9/09- Flew down to San Diego to spend the weekend with Rod and watch him graduate MCT. It was a short weekend, but it was nice to see him after a month. Rod and I both flew on the same day, just to opposite corners of the States. He went to Pensecola, Florida and I went home to Washington.

7/2/09- Rod got to come home for 7 days! In that time we Hoped that little man would be born. Rods flight was delayed for an extra 2 hours so I finally got to see him at 11:20ish pm. So nice to hug him! I was so ready to have our little man and so was Rod!

7/6/09- Went to the doctor with Rod. It was the second appointment he had gotten to come too. :) The doctor told us that we could be at the hospital at 6 am the next morning to start Pitocin and have our Boy.

7/7/09- The day we hoped we would have our boy. The day started out early but we were SOOO excited. They checked me and I was having some contractions but they werent doing anything. They started the Pitocin at around 10 am. We started walking right after they started it. We walked and walked and walked some more. And still nothing was really happening. So they checked me again. It was 3 pm now, and they accidentally broke my water. Then things started to happen. My plan for doing it naturally went down the drain after about 2 hours of intense pain and naseau. Then I called for the most fantastic man ever, The Epidural man!! :) Within 10 minutes I had complete relief. From then on my goal was to have Josiah by Midnight. Hahaha. Well I started to dialate more and I switched positions and Rod, well he slept most of the day. I was running a fever so they were a little concerened about Josiah. At one point his heart started to drop, but with lowering the pitocin they fixed that right away. Around midnight when they checked me for the last time I was ready to go!! :) I was thinking wed have him in minutes. So then I got a little nervous...

7/8/09- I started to push a little after 1 am. It was a long while and his head kept getting a little stuck. But after over an hour of pushing little Josiah David was born!! 3:11 am 7lbs and 21 inches long. A whole party was there to witness the joy of having a baby. He was precious! The most beautifull thing I had ever seen. He was mine and I loved him with all my heart! I was tired, but it was sooo worth it. He was running a low temp, so they did some tests on him. They were a little concerned with some of the results so they wanted us to stay for awhile. We had lots of visitors who were much loved!!

7/13/09- We got to go home! :) We gave Josiah his first bath at home. We spent some time as a family!!

7/18/09- Rod had to leave for Virginia Beach, Virginia. It was so hard to let the daddy and the hubby leave for awhile. I knew it would be hard but I knew that after this leg of seperation we would get a long one together.

9/18/09- Josiah and I went to the airport to pick up Rod!!! :) So the best face ever!! We missed him so much!!

9/20/09- Our one year wedding anninversary!! We went to the beach for the night! How wonderfull to spend some time with the man I love more than anything.

9/22/09- Our road trip started to go to San Diego!! Rod, Me, Josiah and Chloe all loaded into our little Cobalt and Mom and Dad took the big moving truck! We had alot of crap.

9/23/09- We arrived in Oceanside, CA. What a long 2 days of driving, but it felt so good to get out of the car and not have to get back in. Mom, Dad and Rod got everything unloaded and into out condo! We began to settle in and the on Friday night we had to drop Mom, Dad and Chloe off at their hotel. So hard to leave them. Even now its hard to not be with them all the time.

Now we are all settled in our San Diego home and we are enjoying our time as a family. What a year it has been. So much change and so much growth. God has blessed us so very much and he is the reason we made it through this year.
